National Youth Work Strategy

As part of the National Youth Work Strategy, Active Life Club (ALC) conducted a consultation with a focus group of 20 young people ranging in age from 13 to 24. The consultation took place on October 12, 2021, and was designed to gather the opinions, ideas, and beliefs of the young people on six key themes: inclusivity and accessibility, health and well-being, skills and achievement, funding and investment, workforce development, and the value, understanding, and communication of youth work.

During the focus group, the young people shared their thoughts on the importance of youth work and how it can impact their lives. They emphasised the need for youth work to be inclusive and accessible to all, regardless of their background or circumstances. They also stressed the importance of addressing health and well-being issues and providing opportunities for skills development and achievement.

The young people also discussed the challenges that youth work organisations face, including funding and investment issues. They recognised the importance of a well-trained and supported workforce in delivering high-quality youth work services, and they expressed a desire for youth work to be better understood and communicated to the wider community.

Overall, the focus group was a valuable opportunity for ALC to gather the perspectives and ideas of young people on the key themes of the National Youth Work Strategy. Their insights will be used to inform the ongoing efforts of ALC and other organisations to support and empower young people through youth work.
