How did you start volunteering at Active Life Club?
I started volunteering at Active Life Club in 2019. I was a part of the 20th Anniversary Management Committee. There was a volunteer role available for a finance assistant. As I was studying finance at university, I decided that volunteering at Active Life Club would be beneficial as I would gain the necessary knowledge and skills to allow myself to progress into a career in finance. After completing an application form, I met with the management team and started as a volunteer.

When and how did you become a member of staff through volunteering?
I volunteered for 3 years helping organise events, sports sessions, preparing policies and financial reports. A paid position became available for volunteer development officer which I was very passionate for, therefore I applied for the role.

What impact has volunteering here had on you?

I have been able introduce new ideas and methods to allow growth within an organisation. I believe I have achieved this through continuously improving which consequently has resulted in pursuing advanced roles within organisations. As a volunteer, I have been able to gain experience in planning, execution and management of business events and activities and also working closely with a variety of backgrounds, personalities and interests. It has also boosted my confidence and allowed myself to have good work ethic.

What’s the best thing about volunteering at Active Life Club?
Being able to support ethnic minorities and give back to the community.

If you were going to encourage someone else to volunteer at Active Life Club, what would you say?

Volunteering at Active Life Club will assist individuals in developing and progressing in both their personal and professional life. They are able to gain confidence, and progress into their chosen pathway whether that be education or work.

How did you start volunteering at Active Life Club?
I recently completed a Sports Development course and immediately wanted to demonstrate my passion for the sport and the local community by volunteering. Active Life Club’s volunteering program stood out so I applied. After completing an application form, I met with the management team and started the following week.

When and how did you become a member of staff through volunteering?
I volunteered for three months helping organise events and the sports sessions. A paid position became available for volunteer recruitment officer which I successfully applied for.

What impact has volunteering here had on you?
Volunteering has improved my confidence, allowed me to see first-hand how a busy lettings department works together, boosted my knowledge of housing and good practice, as well as my technical ability using Microsoft Office and management software.

What’s the best thing about volunteering at Active Life Club?
Seeing the kids develop their confidence through sport.

If you were going to encourage someone else to volunteer at Active Life Club, what would you say?
Getting your foot in the door is incredibly important; if you have the time to spare – why not boost your skills and potentially begin a rewarding career.
